Cosmetology
About Our Program:
This program is designed to teach students the latest trends and techniques in the cosmetology industry. Instruction is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for employment while obtaining a Cosmetology License from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. This content includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Communication, entrepreneurship, and employability skills
- Human relations and customer service
- Safe and efficient work practices
- Florida cosmetology law and rules
- Science, theory, and practical-art applications of hair shaping and design
- Chemical services which include permanent waving, coloring, and hair relaxing
- Instruction in the latest facial and nail-care design and techniques
Instruction and learning activities are provided in a laboratory setting using hands-on experiences with chemicals, implements, and equipment appropriate to the program’s content and in accordance with safety and sanitation practices in the trade.
Admission Requirements:
- 16 years of age or older and not currently enrolled in any K-12 program
- Occupational Interest
Program Structure:
This program consists of 1200 hours and is a planned sequence of instruction consisting of one (1) Occupational Completion Point (OCP):

Full Program Completion:
- Completion of all program competencies
- Minimum basic-skills TABE® test: Math 8, Reading 9, Language 9; or
- Florida State Board of Cosmetology Examination (Social Security or Tax Identification Number required)

Salary:
The average wage for this career in Florida is $14.63 hourly or $30,440 annually.
Employment Outlook:
