Homestead Senior High School (Dual Enrollment CTE Programs)
This dual enrollment program is available for students at Homestead Senior High. The program allows students an opportunity to enroll in a career technical education program while attending high school, at no cost, which gives students the advantage of entering the workforce soon after graduating. Students may also continue their postsecondary training at any of our technical colleges and save on tuition while completing their certification or licensure.
Practical Nursing
Our program is designed to prepare students for employment in the
- Theoretical Instruction and clinical experience in medical, surgical, obstetric, pediatric, and geriatric nursing.
- Theoretical instruction and clinical experience in acute care,
long term care, and community settings. - Personal, family and community health concepts and nutrition.
- Body structure and function.
- Pharmacology and administration of medications.
Legal aspect of practice and current issues in nursing.
Requirements for admission include a minimum GPA of 2.75, excellent attendance and conduct records, motivation to pursue a career in a specific field and recommendations by teachers and counselors.

Medical Assisting
This program will prepare students for employment as a medical assistant. The program meets the standards and guidelines of an Accredited Educational Program for Medical Assistant.
The content includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Professional Communication
- Interpersonal skills
- Legal and Ethical responsibilities
- Health-illness concepts
- Administrative and clinical duties
- Emergency preparedness and procedures including CPR and first aid
- Safety and security procedures
- Medical terminology
- Anatomy and Physiology
The program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in healthcare.
Pharmacy Technician
The program is designed to prepare students for employment as Pharmacy Technicians, Community Pharmacy Technicians or Pharmacy Aides. The content of this program consists of, but is not limited to:
- Medical terminology, sterile techniques, medicinal drugs and pharmaceutical compounding.
- Intravenous preparation, Prescription labeling, drug ordering and prepackaging.
- Patient record systems, computer applications and data processing.
- Human relations, health
and safety including Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation. - Preparation for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Examination.

Automotive Service Technology 1
This program is designed to teach students the theory of operation and the repair process of modern day automobiles. The Automotive Service Technology courses of today prepare students to transition into the automotive workforce. The content of the program includes but is not limited to the following:
- Identify vehicle by year, make, model and engine displacement
- Vehicle inspection for unusual conditions or concerns
- Conduct pre-service evaluation
on vehicles. Diagnose conditions and provide written estimateson corrective repair cost. - Inspect manual transmission
- Lubricate driveline, suspension, and steering systems.
- Replace inline fuel filters as applicable
- Repair and balance wheel and tire assembly to industry standards.
After successfully completing this program, students will be able to diagnose, service and repair engine powertrains to include transmissions and transaxles. Students will also be able to diagnose repair or replace automotive heating and air-conditioning systems.
Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC/R) 1
This program is designed to prepare students for employment or advanced training in the heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration and ventilation industry. The content of this program includes but is not limited to the following:
- Recognize and identify basic construction drawings, terms, components
and symbols. - Differentiate between air conditioning and refrigeration systems and appliances.
- Operation of a refrigerant recovery system and evaluation of system performance.
- Maintain, test and adjust various commercial and residential heating and air conditioning appliances.
- Installation and repair of various air supply and ventilation systems.
- Basic electricity and welding for HVAC applications.
This course prepares students for
Certified Nursing Assistant
This program is structured to prepare students for entry level work in the field of nursing and healthcare. The program length is approximately 120 hours. Admission requirements are a high school senior with a min. 2.0 GPA and an interest in the field of healthcare. The content of this program includes but is not limited to the following:
- Provide emergency care.
- Recognize and practice safety and security procedures.
- Theoretical Instruction and clinical experience in long term medical care.
- Perform physical comfort and safety functions specific to nurse assisting.
- Provide biological, psychological, and social support.
- Apply the principles of infection control specific to nursing assisting.
- Assist with restorative (rehabilitative) activities.
