Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC/R) I

About Our Program:

This program is designed to prepare students for training and employment in the heating, air‐conditioning, and refrigeration and ventilation industry. The content of this program includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Practical knowledge of basic electricity and electrical components of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment
  • Evaluate, troubleshoot, and wire electrical motors, and their components
  • Use and care of hand tools, power tools, specialized tools, and equipment
  • Use of current industry standards, practices, and techniques
  • Maintenance, testing, and adjustment of various commercial heating and air‐conditioning accessories

The Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC/R) program provides classroom and laboratory (hands-on) experiences which enable students to become proficient in the installation, repair and maintenance of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating systems. The laboratory contains a variety of residential central air conditioning units and industry simulators.

Admission Requirements:

  • 16 years of age or older and not currently enrolled in any K-12 program
  • Occupational Interest

Program Structure:

This program consists of 750 hours and is a planned sequence of instruction consisting of three Occupational Completion Points (OCPs):

Full Program Completion:

  • Completion of all program competencies
  • Basic Skills Level TABE®: Math 10, Reading 9, Language 9; or
  • HVAC Excellence Certification

The average wage for this career in Florida is $21.85 hourly or $45,450 annually.
